St. Bonaventure Extends Schmidt

St. Bonaventure University today announced two-year contract extensions for men’s basketball coach Mark Schmidt and women’s basketball coach Jim Crowley. Both coaches are now under contract through the 2020-21 season.

“Mark and Jim are two of the best coaches in the Atlantic 10 Conference,” said Director of Athletics Tim Kenney. “Both of our programs are positioned for long-term, consistent success, and that is a direct tribute to Mark and Jim. These extensions demonstrate the University’s commitment to them and to our basketball programs, and I could not be happier about that.”

Schmidt’s teams have had winning records five of the last seven years. Last year, the Bonnies went 18-13 overall and 10-8 in the Atlantic 10 Conference – the second-most A-10 wins in the program’s history. The highlights of the year included wins at eventual conference champion Davidson and at home over 18th-ranked VCU. Two Bonnies, senior center Youssou Ndoye and junior guard Marcus Posley, were named third team all-conference.

In 2012, Schmidt received a contract extension after he led the Bonnies to the program’s first Atlantic 10 championship and an NCAA Tournament berth.

Over his eight seasons at St. Bonaventure, Schmidt’s record is 124-123.

St. Bonaventure has also made significant academic progress during Schmidt’s tenure. The Bonnies earned a Public Recognition Award from the NCAA this spring, ranking in the top 10 percent of all men’s basketball programs in the Academic Progress Rate (APR) measurement with a perfect score of 1,000.
