USU Men’s Basketball Announce Staff Changes

Utah State head men’s basketball coach Tim Duryea announced some staffing changes on Tuesday as Tarvish Felton and Chris Jones have assumed new titles and Kyle Taylor has joined the staff as the Video Coordinator/Director of Player Development.

Felton has been named associate head coach, while Jones has assumed the role of recruiting coordinator.

“All of our assistants are well rounded as basketball coaches and are responsible for multiple facets of the program,” Duryea said. “From academics, to player development, to recruiting, to opponent scouting, and all have to be well rounded to coach in this program.

“Coach Felton aspires to be a Division-I head coach in the future. He has tremendous leadership skills and relates well to players, fans and administrators in a way that would allow him to be excellent in that role,” Duryea added. “He has shown the ability to handle administrative duties that it takes to run a Division-I program, in addition to the responsibilities that assistant coaches must handle on a daily basis.”

“Coach Jones is responsible for, and does a great job managing and coordinating, our recruiting as well as handling the administrative component and all the paperwork that the NCAA requires and regulates. Staff organization is a big part of successful recruiting, and Coach Jones has shown a great knack in handling those duties.”

Taylor joins the Utah State staff from Covenant College, a Division III school in Lookout Mountain, Ga., where he served as the head men’s basketball coach and Director of Athletics. Taylor led to Scots to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history last season, guiding the team to an 18-10 record, the best winning percentage in program history.

In addition to his team’s success on the court, Taylor also mentored 18 players to USA South all-Academic team honors, seven players to National Association of Basketball Coaches honor court accolades and one to a CoSIDA academic all-district recognition. As an administrator, Taylor helped Covenant College into full Division III membership and into the USA South Conference, where Covenant was awarded with USA South Sportsmanship trophies in each of his three years at the helm.

Prior to Covenant College, Taylor was on the coaching staff at Minnesota State-Moorhead, William Jewell, CS Northridge and Pepperdine. Taylor replaces Dave Marek who was named an assistant coach at Weber State earlier this month.

“I’m grateful to Coach Duryea for this opportunity and I’m looking forward to joining a fantastic basketball program with a great tradition,” Taylor said. “I’m excited as we enter year four in the Mountain West to continue the trajectory of the program forward.”
