Western Kentucky head coach Ray Harper announced Tuesday the additions of William Monts as Director of Basketball Operations and Martin Cross as Video Coordinator.
Monts spent the last two seasons as the head coach and Sports Information Director at Warren Wilson College in Asheville, N.C., where he led the Owls to the USCAA National Tournament in both seasons. Prior to Warren Wilson, Monts was the head assistant coach at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus, Ga. He spent five years as an assistant coach at Anderson University in Anderson, S.C., prior to that.
Monts earned his bachelor’s degree from Clemson University in 2006 and his master’s degree from Anderson in 2009.
With the Hilltoppers, Monts will oversee all day-to-day administrative efforts of the program, including student-athlete academics, equipment and practice schedules, and he will serve as the liaison between the program and the WKU athletic administration in marketing, communications, development and ticketing.
He replaces Chase Richardson, who was hired as an assistant coach at Troy University this offseason.
Cross transitions into the Video Coordinator role after spending four years as a student-manager with the Hilltoppers, where one of his main responsibilities was helping with film exchange and film review. Cross helped facilitate the Hilltoppers during the 2012 and 2013 NCAA Tournaments while a manager.
Cross earned his bachelor’s degree from WKU in 2015. The Albany, Ky., native graduated from Russell County High School in 2011.
