Wyllie promoted to Assistant Coach at West Florida

The University of West Florida men’s basketball program announced the promotion of Evan Wyllie to Assistant Coach.

Wyllie enters his third season on the UWF men’s basketball coaching staff in 2021-22. 

Wyllie spent the previous two seasons as a Graduate Assistant Coach on UWF’s staff and was one of 22 individuals nationally who were named to the TopConnect Graduate Assistant Leadership Academy in June 2021.

He joined the Argonauts from Frankfort Community High School (IL), where he led the Redbirds to a 21-11 record and won the Class 2A Regional Championship in his only season at the school.
 
“It is an honor and a privilege to join the UWF basketball family,” Wyllie said after joining Jeff Burkhamer’s staff. “I am very excited about the opportunity to work with Coach Burkhamer and Coach Benator and look forward to getting the Argos back to the top of the GSC. We have a beautiful school, terrific facilities, and a great opportunity to take Argo basketball to another level.”
 
Prior to his time at FCHS, Wyllie was the head coach at Norris City-Omaha-Enfield High School (IL) from 2015-2018. During his time at NCOE, he led the Fighting Cardinals to a regular season Greater Egyptian Conference championship in the 2015-16 season. During the 2017-18 campaign, his team set school records for three-pointers made in a game (19) and in a season (229). 

Wyllie also spent three years at Dwight Township High School (IL) as an Assistant Coach from 2012-2015. He helped lead the Trojans to the Class 1A Regional Championship and Sangamon Valley Conference Championship during the 2014-15 season.
 
A Dwight, IL native, Wyllie was a two-year starter for Dwight Township High School, where he earned All-Area honors as a senior.

Wyllie attended Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, where his earned his bachelor’s degree in Physical Education Teacher Education with a minor in Coaching in December 2010. He completed his master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction at UWF in August 2021.

Wyllie was married to his wife, Rachel, in May of 2018. They reside in Pensacola, FL.
 
“We are excited about Evan Wyllie becoming a part of our basketball program at UWF,” Burkhamer said. “Evan is an energetic, ambitious, and enthusiastic young coach. He has been a successful high school head coach in Illinois, so he will join our program with experience in a lot of areas. Evan will be involved with the individual development of our players, recruiting, team travel, film breakdown, and academics. We are happy to welcome Evan and his wife Rachel to the UWF basketball family.”
