Daily Dirt – 7/11/16

I hope everyone had a safe and successful time on the road last week. Here are a bunch of things that I have heard…

  • It sounds like North Dakota assistant coach Shawn Dirden is the leader at DII Northwestern Oklahoma State. Dirden has spent the past two seasons on the UND staff, and has also been an assistant at Montana State and South Dakota. More on this search as I hear it.
  • Speaking of DII searches…I have heard that the leader for the vacant NYIT job is former Iona standout Kevin Hamilton. He spent last season doing radio for Iona basketball and currently has a son on the NYIT roster. This search could be wrapped up shortly.
  • The final on-campus interview at DIII Delaware Valley will take place today. I have heard that the search committee will give the AD a recommendation by Tuesday, and the job could be offered as early as Wednesday. The final group contains at least two current DIII head coaches, and two DIII assistant coaches.
  • It sounds like former DIII Newbury College (MA) head coach Jelani Townsell has been offered the job at Roxbury CC (MA). Townsell was replaced at Newbury this past spring by former NBA player Dana Barros after five seasons on the job. A formal announcement could come after Tuesday.
  • I have heard that DIII Randolph-Macon College (VA) assistant coach Adam Blake will be named as an assistant coach at DII Concord University (WVa). Last season was Blake’s first at R-MC. He is a 2015 graduate of Capital University (OH).
  • I have heard that Brandon Burgette will be named as an assistant at Johnson County CC (KS). He is a former assistant coach at Indian Hills CC (IA). Burgette also spent time on the staff at his alma mater Southwest Baptist University.
