Head men’s basketball coach Tim Malroy announced that he is stepping down from his coaching position at Evergreen State.
Malroy just finished his seventh season as the Geoducks head coach and was just the fifth head men’s basketball coach in program history.
“I would like to express my gratitude for the many years Tim has served coaching our men’s basketball program,” said Elizabeth McHugh, Director of Student Wellness, Recreation and Athletics. “He has provided steady leadership and consistency for our student-athletes and our program. Tim is truly a teacher at heart, and I wish him the very best in the next chapter of his career.”
He came to Evergreen after a 10-year stint as men’s basketball head coach at Green River Community College in Auburn, Wash. Prior to his time at Green River, Malroy served as women’s basketball head coach at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia.
An Olympia native, Malroy graduated from Olympia High School in 1985 before heading up to Bellingham, Wash., to play basketball at Western Washington University.
Malroy earned his bachelor of arts in psychology in 1989, later earned his master of science in sports psychology from Western Washington in 2000 and earned his Ph.D. in sport and performance psychology through Grand Canyon University in 2019.
He is married to the former Heather Covington and they have two children, David and Kyla.

I have had the privilege of coaching outstanding student-athletes, working closely with incredibly supportive and professional staff and coaches in the athletic department, and competing in the excellent Cascade Collegiate Conference. I am eternally grateful to the institution for the support and encouragement I have received as I completed my Doctorate and as I continue to Dig Deep and pursue personal goals and dreams. I will always be a part of the Geoduck Family, and I look forward to watching the next generation of Geoduck student-athletes. Go Geoducks!”
