Shammond Williams named Assistant Basketball Coach at Denver

The University of Denver men’s basketball program has hired Shammond Williams as a new assistant coach on its coaching staff, head coach Jeff Wulbrun announced on Wednesday.

“As we look to continue to progress as a program, experience is a necessity in building a staff and competing for championships,” Wulbrun said. “Shammond’s presence will immensely benefit our student-athletes. He played in the NBA for nine seasons and had a 16-year pro career. He played for Dean Smith at North Carolina, where he participated in three Final Fours and was the all-time leader in five statistical categories when he left UNC. He has also coached at the D-I level for eight years. His experience will be beneficial in so many areas on and off the court; player development, strategic planning offensively and defensively, game management and mentorship to name a few. I am thrilled to welcome Shammond and his family to the University of Denver and our basketball program.”

Jeff, cares about his players and staff, and a well respected coach in our profession. I’m blessed to have been able to work for an awesome individual in Delisha Milton Jones, and transition to another in Jeff Wulbrun. My family and I are eager to come back to the Mile High City and represent The University of Denver and Pioneer family. “
