Had this one last week as a rumor – it’s now official. New Mexico assistant Craig Snow has been named as the head coach at New Mexico Highlands.
Spending the last three seasons on the staff Lobos staff in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Craig will move just two hours north on I-25 to take the reins of the Highlands men’s basketball team. This past year as an assistant coach with New Mexico, Snow helped guide the Lobos to a 27-7 record, a Mountain West Conference (MWC) Tournament Championship and a seven seed in the NCAA Tournament.
New Mexico was ranked as high as 17th nationally in 2013-14.
In his three seasons in Albuquerque, the Lobos went a combined 84-20 with three (MWC) Tournament Titles and three appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
"First off, I feel honored to be the next head coach at New Mexico Highlands," Snow explained. "I am looking forward to working with President Fries, Vice President Baca, Women’s Basketball Coach Brianna Finch, Athletic Director Jeff Falkner and the entire athletic department and university. I can’t wait to get to Las Vegas and get to work.
"Highlands has a lot of exciting things to look forward to in the future," Snow added.
After spending this past season as an assistant coach, Snow was the Director of Basketball Operations in 2012-2013 after serving as the Video Administrator in 2011-2012 with New Mexico.
A four year collegiate player for Evansville, Snow ended his career with 1,530 points. He hit 39.2 percent of his shots from beyond the arc and 76.4 percent from the charity stripe. In four years with the Aces, Snow averaged 12.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Evansville in 2001, he went on to play professionally overseas in both Luxembourg and Austria.
Before his coaching stint with the Lobos, Snow spent five seasons as the Athletic Director and Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Bosque HS in Albuquerque. Snow is married Jessica – who received her Ph. D. from the University of New Mexico in 2009 – and have two children: Adelynn (5) and Beckett (2).
