FGCU men’s basketball first-year head coach Joe Dooley completed his coaching staff on Monday, announcing the hiring of Jamill Jones as an assistant coach.

Jones joins Dooley’s staff of associate head coach Marty Richter and assistant coach Michael Fly.

“I’m happy to welcome Jamill to our staff and our basketball family,” said Dooley, who was appointed the program’s third head coach on April 22nd after 10 years as an assistant at Kansas. “As a former player, he’ll be a tremendous asset to our player development and his experience on the AAU circuit will provide good recruiting contacts. Jamill is a high-character person that will be a great representative of the FGCU program.”

Jones spent the last five years as an assistant coach with Nike Team Takeover out of Washington, D.C. Over the five-year span, Jones worked with over 70 Division I scholarship players and in 2010 captured the EYBL Championship under head coach Keith Stevens. Jones also helped organize and run the 2011 and 2012 Annual National High School Hoop Festival and also served as a skills instructor at the 2012 Nike Skills Summit.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunity to coach at a program that has had the type of success FGCU has had and work for a coach that I very much respect in coach Dooley,” Jones said. “Coaching is a passion for me and an opportunity to make these young men better every day is exactly what I wanted. This is a program that has started to create a winning tradition and I’m excited to help build upon that.”

Jones graduated from Arkansas Tech in 2008 after playing one season at North Platte Community College where he is one of 50 players in the program’s history to be named to the Athletic Department’s Hall of Fame.
