Head Men’s Basketball Coach Israel “Izzy” Ingle picked up his 100th career win on Monday against conference rival Middle Georgia College. Among his many accomplishments, Ingle is one of the youngest coaches to reach the milestone at only 28 years of age. In 2011-12, Ingle became the youngest head coach in Georgia Junior College history to win the Conference Championship and lead a team to the National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. The Highlanders (26 – 9) finished the season as the NJCAA District 13 Champions and Coach Ingle was named NJCAA District 13 Coach of the Year.
Ingle stepped on the GSC campus in the spring of 2007 as a hungry 23 year-old
coach with aspirations of building the basketball team from scratch to a nationally
recognized program. After a conference championship, national tournament
appearance, Coach of the Year Award, and 100 wins, Gordon State College is
back on the basketball map.
“I’m very fortunate to have received this opportunity at such a young age. I have
learned a lot from my dad (Tony Ingle) and our athletic director (Todd Davis)
throughout the years. They have both helped me become a better coach,”
exclaimed Ingle. “I also owe a lot of credit to former President Dr. Larry Weill who
took a chance in 2007 on a young coach with a dream.”
