Towson head men’s basketball coach Pat Skerry announced the hiring of Parfait Bitee as Director of Student-Athlete Development.
A University of Rhode Island graduate and member of the Cameroonian men’s national basketball team, Bitee’s responsibilities will include organizing all game and practice edits and assisting the coaching staff in formulating scouting efforts; devising and implementing class check schedule for all men’s basketball student athletes.
He will also assist in programming and education of the development of student-athletes and provide mentoring as needed. Bitee will also assist with Towson’s Total Tiger program and help organize team community service efforts.
“I’m excited to add Parfait to our staff, having had the pleasure of coaching him as a student athlete he has always been someone I’ve had my eye on,” Skerry said. “Now that he has finished playing I’m looking forward to him mentoring our student-athletes and especially our perimeter players on what it takes to become a successful collegiate student-athlete and beyond that.”
Bitee understands the challenges many international student-athletes that come to the United States face in hopes of bettering their lives through academics and athletics.
Bitee was a standout at Rhode Island in which he was named to the Atlantic-10’s All-Defensive Team. He also departed Rhode Island as the school’s all-time leader in assists, three-pointers made and three-point field goal percentage.
Bitee enjoyed a sensational senior season where he helped lead the team to 21 victories and a trip to the National Invitational Tournament (NIT).
The Yaounde, Cameroon native registered career-highs in several statistical categories: scoring (11.8), field goal percentage (.496), field goals made (128), three-point field goal percentage (.512), three-point field goals made (65), assists (156), steals (26). His .512 three-point field goal percentage was among the tops in the nation and was just one 3FG make short of setting a new URI single-season record for 3FG proficiency.
Bitee played on the Cameroonian men’s national basketball team that won the silver medal at the FIBA Africa Championship 2007. Bitee has played professionally for seven years in five countries (Morocco, Qatar, France, Belgium and Angola).
