Fort Valley State University’s Vice President for Advancement and Interim Athletics Director Anthony Holloman today announced the resignation of Head Men’s Basketball Coach Samuel Jackson, effective September 30, 2018. Jackson informed university officials of his decision on Tuesday morning.
“After visiting with my family, I made a decision to devote time to critical family issues which require my full attention,” said Coach Jackson. “Unfortunately, that will prevent me from being optimally effective as men’s basketball coach during the upcoming season. I hope what are now emergencies will prove to be temporary, and plan to resume my coaching career once they are resolved.”
“Coach Jackson has made a profound impact on a countless number of young men during his years of service at FVSU,” said Holloman. “We are extremely appreciative of all that he has done for the university, including two trips to the SIAC conference finals in the past four years. We look forward to building upon our winning tradition through innovative programming as we bring new coaching leadership aboard focused on excellence in athletics, academics, and character.”
A national search for a new head men’s basketball coach will begin immediately.
