Gallup named Head Basketball Coach at Fulton Montgomery CC

Ej Gallup has been selected as the new Head Coach for the Fulton Montgomery Community College Men’s Basketball Program.

Gallup takes over for Coach Ed Collar who is stepping down after 12 successful seasons to coach the Gloversville High School Boy’s Basketball Team.  Collar most recently led his 2018-19 team to a 20-win season and Region 3 Championship appearance where he was named Conference and Region Coach of the Year.

“First, I would like to start by thanking Ed Collar for the great years that he put into our basketball program.  He did things the right way and I wish him nothing but the best at Gloversville coaching the boy’s team,” said Athletic Director Kevin Jones.

Gallup is a 1999 graduate of Gloversville High School where his basketball success began. During the 1999 season, he led his team to a 21-3 record, Foothills Council Championship and Sectional runner up.   Gallup was also tabbed Foothill Council 1st Team All-Star and MVP, as well as, Section 2 Class B First Team All-Star.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to become the next Men’s Basketball coach at FMCC. The direction of the program is in great shape and I’m honored to take over for Coach Ed Collar. Coach Collar has meant a lot to me in my life and in my career. Him and assistant coaches; Arturo McLeod and Ray Daley, have put a lot of hard work, energy and care into this program over the years and we will build upon their foundation,” said Gallup.

Gallup is the only four-year Division 1 Men’s basketball scholarship player from Gloversville.  Ej moved on to play at UAlbany and Coastal Carolina and started every game in his four-year career.  He averaged 15.6 ppg, including 248 3pt field goals, 267 rebounds, 153 assists and 139 steals.

Ej’s hometown roots will play a role in his transition to the coaching sideline. “I grew up and now reside in Gloversville, I am very familiar with how much FMCC has to offer students and athletes.  I want to thank Athletic Director Kevin Jones for this opportunity, I’m very excited to get to work with him on a day to day basis. Coach Jones is a basketball guy and an FMCC guy in every sense of the word having played for the Raiders.”

Professionally, Gallup had try-outs for the Charlotte Bobcats and New York Knicks.  He ultimately found his home in Germany playing in the Bundesliga League which is considered the highest-level league in Germany.  His best season came playing for the Ratiopharm Ulm where he was top 20 in the league in scoring and finished second in the league in 3-point field goals.

Most recently, you can find Gallup coaching youth at various basketball camps around the world, playing along side of Jimmer Fredette of Team Fredette in the TBT tournament on ESPN, or moving up the broadcasting ranks.

“I’m glad that we have the opportunity to bring in such a well-respected basketball guy in EJ Gallup.  His resume is incredible, and I only see great things to come from him at FMCC.  He should hit the ground running and with his basketball connections he will make us a viable option for local and capital region talent,” said Jones.

Ej has high hopes for the upcoming 2020-2021 season and looks to hit the ground running.

“Make no mistake, this is basketball at the college level, we want the Raiders Den to be filled with basketball fans from campus and the community. Our goal is to win ball games and prepare our kids to move on to four-year schools both academically and athletically. Recruitment for the 2020-21 season is underway and we will have some very exciting commitment announcements in the coming weeks,” stated Head Coach Ej Gallup.
