Omaha head men’s basketball coach Derrin Hansen announced the promotion of Jake Koch to assistant coach.
Koch previously served two seasons as director of men’s basketball operations from 2018-20.
“I’m happy to announce the promotion of Jake Koch to an assistant coaching role,” Hansen said. “Jake has excelled in his position as director of operations within our staff and has earned the respect of our entire department and, just as importantly, our players. He is deserving of this opportunity to further his career, and we’re pleased he’ll continue to be a key part of our success.”
Before joining the Maverick staff, Koch served three years at Northern Iowa as a film assistant (2017-18) and graduate assistant (2015-17). He was a four-year letterwinner for the Panthers from 2009-13, during which time he solidified himself as a 1,000-point scorer and finished No. 2 in school history for career blocked shots.
Following his collegiate career, he played professionally for two seasons in Europe with CSM Medias in Romania (2013) and the Bayer Giants in Germany (2013-15).
“I’m thankful for this opportunity to assume a new role at Omaha,” Koch said. “I’ve learned a lot the last two years as a director of basketball operations, and I’m looking forward to continuing to develop as a coach at the Division I level. I want to thank Coach (Derrin) Hansen, Coach (Pat) Eberhart and Coach (Tyler) Erwin for the confidence they’ve shown me, and I’m excited to work with the great group of student-athletes we have representing our program.”
