Daily news and notes from around the college basketball coaching world…
Twelve people in the University of Nebraska’s men’s basketball program, including head coach Fred Hoiberg, have reportedly tested positive for COVID-19. Hoiberg said, “I am experiencing symptoms, but my condition has improved over the last 24 hours. Our program has been hit hard over the last 10 days, and we are all trying to manage it and get through it.” More HERE.
TCU head coach Jamie Dixon has tested positive for COVID-19. He released the following statement on Twitter: “Following our team-wide testing, I was notified that I had tested positive for COVID-19. I have begun self-isolation and look forward to continuing our season soon.”
East Carolina head coach Joe Dooley has also tested positive for COVID-19. Dooley’s positive test comes on the heels of a pause for the entire program after there were five positive results from COVID tests earlier this week. According to the release, Dooley is asymptomatic. More HERE.
Former BYU men’s basketball coach Tony Ingle, who won national championships at Division II Kennesaw State and NAIA Dalton State College later in his coaching career, died on Monday due to complications from COVID-19. He was 68 years old. More HERE.
Strong comments from Baylor head women’s coach Kim Mulkey this weekend on the NCAA and playing during the current pandemic; “The NCAA has to have the almighty dollar from the men’s tournament. The almighty dollar is more important than the health and welfare of me, the players or anybody else. One conference does this, one conference does that. The CDC says this. Everybody is confused. I’m confused,” Mulkey said. “I’m uncomfortable coaching.” More HERE.
Good article from The University Star on Texas State interim head coach Terrance Johnson, and his journey to TSU. “Being able to inspire and impact lives, I don’t know if there’s much that compares to that,” Johnson says. “Being given a life is a wonderful thing, but if you’re unable to impact a life with what you’re given — then what good are you?” More HERE.
I’ve been tweeting about this one for a while…Carver College head coach Bryan Spencer has led his NCCAA team an 0-22 record with 18 of those games being played against D1 teams. Carver’s average margin of defeat is more than 60 points in the D1 games, but they keep on trucking. More HERE.
