SFA men’s basketball head coach Kyle Keller announced on Tuesday the hiring of Austin Cox to his staff to serve as the Director of Basketball Operations for the 2021-22 season and beyond. Cox joins SFA after serving as an Elite Enterprise Account executive at Hudl, a leading player in the recruiting landscape for college athletics. Prior to his time at Hudl, Cox served as Chief of Staff at Southern Miss, where he reported directly to the Director of Athletics and helped coordinate and facilitate special projects within the department.
“I have honestly known Austin since he was a year old”, said Keller. “What a neat deal for me and our program that he is stepping back into college athletics. He has grown up in college basketball and all he knows is winning. Austin has had success in every step he has taken in his life, and he will add tremendous value to not only our players, but coaches, staff and even to our administration. He is a special person.”
Cox, the son of former Lumberjack Associate Head Coach Jeremy Cox, brings Division I basketball experience to the staff as a result of two years at Texas Tech on the staff of Tubby Smith, where he served as head manager for the program. He was named to Front Office Sports’ Rising 25 list in 2019, which recognizes rising stars in the field of sports business.
“I am extremely grateful for Coach Keller giving me the opportunity to join Lumberjack Basketball”, said Cox. “It is truly an honor to be in Deep East Texas – with a coach I respect so much – representing the great history and tradition of Texas’ winningest college basketball program over the past decade.”
Cox will oversee a variety of projects for the Lumberjack basketball program, including facilitating travel, meals, lodging and scheduling. He will also guide the team managers and assist with the team academic efforts.
