Grant Billmeier, a former captain and two-time NCAA Tournament participant for the Seton Hall men’s basketball team, is returning to the Pirates coaching staff as head coach Kevin Willard has named him assistant coach. Billmeier previously was Seton Hall’s director of basketball operations in 2013-14 and coordinator of basketball operations from 2010-13.

“We are thrilled to have Grant return to our family,” Willard said. “He is a beloved Seton Hall graduate, and he is a bright, young coach who will work tirelessly with our student-athletes and will be a terrific mentor to our young post players.”

“I am honored to be offered the opportunity to return to my alma mater as an assistant coach,” Billmeier said. “The thrill of returning to the place where I graduated and played collegiately is an opportunity of a lifetime. Coach Willard is an outstanding coach and mentor who has assembled a talented roster and staff from top to bottom.”

Billmeier returns to The Hall after a one-year stint at Fairleigh Dickinson, where he served under head coach Greg Herenda and worked with the team’s post players.

During Billmeier’s first stint on Willard’s coaching staff, his primary roles included serving as the academics liaison and the daily and monthly scheduling of practice times, lifting schedules and team meals. He also coordinated with local hospitals, foundations and soup kitchens to bring student-athletes out to the community.

A fan favorite in South Orange, Billmeier was a four-year letterwinner and two-year captain for the Pirates from 2003-07, playing in 106 career games and helping the program reach the NCAA Tournament twice in 2004 and ’06 and a first-round win over Arizona in ’04. He was the recipient of the Robin Cunningham Award for having the best academic success on the team.

A native of Pennington, N.J. and graduate of St. Patrick High School, Billmeier previously was an assistant coach at his alma mater and played professionally in Germany and Portugal. He also runs his own basketball summer camp, the Billmeier and Nardi Skills Camp, alongside former St. Patrick teammate and Villanova guard Mike Nardi.
