Brian Zoeller Named Head Coach at Wilson College (PA)

The Wilson College Athletics Department announced that Brian Zoeller will be the next head men’s basketball coach for the Phoenix. The Wilson men’s basketball program enters year two as the sport was added during the coeducational movement of the College.

Previously Zoeller was the head junior varsity coach and an assistant varsity coach for Chambersburg Area Senior High School (CASHS) from 2005-2012. While at CASHS he was the assistant coach for Chambersburg’s 2012 Pennsylvanian Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) District III AAAA championship team. During his tenure at CASHS, Zoeller developed and implemented game and practice plans, monitored student-athlete achievement, observed and analyzed opponents, participated in film exchanges with local coaches in region, and coordinated the other daily duties of running a basketball program.

“On behalf of the College, I welcome Brian to the Wilson athletics staff,” said Director of Athletics Lori Frey. “Brian has a competitive spirit, a team approach, and a focus on education. These qualities will help the basketball program and the department as a whole as we move forward with new initiatives.”

In addition to his seven years of coaching scholastic basketball, Zoeller holds three years of intercollegiate athletic experience. While earning his Bachelor’s degree from The Pennsylvania State University, he was a member of the Lady Lion basketball practice team. During his stint on the team, he would compete against the Penn State’s women’s basketball team in practice and provide game simulations by learning opponents’ offensive and defensive strategies. In addition, Zoeller was a basketball camp counselor at Penn State’s basketball camp.

“I am very excited to be named the next head men’s basketball coach at Wilson College. Coach Smith did great work to establish the men’s program previously, and I look forward to building on that foundation,” said Zoeller. “I plan to build a program that is based on the fundamental concept that collegiate basketball exists to enhance student-athletes’ college experience, but does not surpass the importance of academics.”

Zoeller holds a Master’s degree in education from Wilkes University. Prior to earning his higher education degrees, he was a varsity basketball standout at CASHS. During his high school tenure, the boys’ basketball team competed in three District 3 AAAA Tournaments, two PIAA AAAA State Tournaments, and won the 2001 District 3 AAAA Championship.

“On the court, we will play a very smart, tough, and hard-nosed brand of team basketball. I am thankful to Wilson College for giving me the opportunity to represent their school, and I hope the campus and local communities will come out to see the exciting future in store for Wilson men’s basketball,” said Zoeller.

Currently, Zoeller serves as a volunteer consultant for local and regional youth, high school, and college basketball programs. In this role, he observes practices, games, and film to offer suggestions on tactics and techniques surrounding the game of basketball. Additionally, he is the co-founder and managing partner of Zoeller Real Estate Company. Zoeller was raised and resides in Chambersburg.
