Chicago State suspends Men’s Basketball for remainder of 2020-21 season

The Chicago State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced today that it is suspending all men’s basketball competition-related activities for the 2020-21 season to focus on the health, safety, and academic pursuits of the Men’s Basketball student-athletes. The remaining 14 programs, including Women’s Basketball, will continue with their regular schedule and competitions.

“It was a difficult decision, but a necessary decision in order to prioritize the health, wellness, and academic success of the student athletes,” said Elliott Charles, Athletics Director at Chicago State University.

The Cougars completed the non-conference portion of its schedule Sunday at Drake. CSU postponed a non-conference game at Iowa State University on Tuesday, December 22 due to an insufficient number of student athletes available to participate in the competition. CSU was scheduled to open Western Athletic Conference play Jan. 8, 2021, at home against the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
