Saint Anselm College men’s basketball head coach Trey Witter has announced the hiring of Chris King as an assistant coach for the program.
“Chris is an extremely hard worker, excellent recruiter and thoughtful teacher, he will make our program better every day,” said Coach Witter. “I met Chris on a basketball court at Springfield College, and he has become one of my closest friends ever since.”
King comes to the Hilltop after spending the past three seasons at Washington College, a Division III member of the Centennial Conference in Chestertown, Maryland. While at Washington, King assisted in all aspects of the program, while operating as the teams recruiting/offensive coordinator.
“I am very excited to join the men’s basketball staff here at Saint Anselm,” said King. “The storied history of the program, the elite academic and athletic standard here, and working with Coach Witter makes this an incredible opportunity and I am excited to uphold the standard set by those before me.”
Washington increased its win total in each of the three seasons King spent in Chestertown, while leading the team to its best start in over 90 years when the Shoremen started the season 9-0. Prior to his time at Washington College, King was a graduate assistant for two seasons at his alma mater, Springfield College.
In two seasons on staff, King led the recruiting efforts for the Pride, successfully recruiting 18 players while earning his master’s degree in athletic leadership. King also had a one-year stint as an assistant coach at Westfield State University, handling the recruiting, campus tours, and other tasks as assigned.
King graduated from Springfield College in 2019 with his bachelor’s degree in physical education with a minor in coaching. Upon successfully completing his undergraduate studies in Springfield, King returned to his hometown of Longmeadow, Mass., to begin his coaching career at Longmeadow High School.
