Daily Dirt – 2/26/18

A few things that I’ve heard today with some news and updates mixed in…

  • With Dan McHale being released today at Eastern Kentucky, the early HOT name there is Nicholls State head coach Richie Riley. A former EKU player (played for Travis Ford) and assistant coach (worked for Jeff Neubauer), Riley currently has Nicholls State sitting atop the Southland Conference standings at 20-9. The Kentucky native has also been an assistant at Clemson, UAB, and Coastal Carolina.

  • Speaking of hot names…Utah assistant DeMarlo Slocum’s name is heating up at Colorado State after the inevitable resignation of Larry Eustachy earlier today. Slocum is a former assistant at CSU (2008-11 – never worked for Eustachy), who has been at Utah for the past seven seasons. Obviously there will be a lot of guys involved here, but keep an eye on Slocum.

  • DII Dirt: earlier today I reported that a coaching change had been made at Seton Hill University (PA). While no official release has been issued by the college, the job has officially been posted HERE.

  • DIII Dirt: confirming an earlier report…I mentioned this afternoon that Tim Whittle was out at Macalester College (MN). I can now confirm that the veteran coach did in fact resign (no official release by the school yet). We will have the position posted on HD shortly.

  • I’m hearing that an NAIA job in the Red River Athletic Conference has opened (really good job). More on this when I am given the green light…

News…

  • From The Advocate: LSU basketball coach Will Wade refuted a national news story reported Sunday saying that the NCAA was looking into his recruiting practices during a Monday afternoon news conference. The Yahoo! report, which was released last night, reported that Wade was drawing scrutiny from NCAA for recruiting tactics. Wade told The Advocate; “There’s been zero inquiries, zero contact by the NCAA to me, my staff, our players, our administration and our school,” Wade said. “There’s been zero contact. I’m not really going to expand on it more than that.”

  • The Pac-12 Conference announced it has reprimanded Arizona State University head coach Bobby Hurley and issued a fined him $10,000 for his inappropriate conduct toward the officiating crew at the conclusion of Arizona State’s game at Oregon State on Saturday. This is the second time Hurley has been reprimanded during the 2017-18 season. The Pac-12 reprimanded Hurley for criticizing officials in an interview following ASU’s loss at Colorado on January 4th.
