Daily Dirt – 3/23/18

Wrapping up a busy week…

  • I have heard that the search at Loyola (Maryland) is down to three. One of the three is Xavier assistant Luke Murray. The other two are also high major assistants – one from the east coast, one from the south. I have also heard that Northwestern assistant Billy Donlon and Arizona State assistant Rashon Burno interviewed, but did not advance to the final group.

  • The search at Middle Tennessee State is heating up. The three names that I’m hearing the most are Xavier associate head coach Travis Steele (will wait to see what Mack does first), UMBC’s Ryan Odom (obviously a hot commodity), and UNC Asheville head coach Nick McDevitt.

  • No secret here…Tony Madlock will be joining Penny Hardaway in Memphis. Madlock served as the interim head coach at Ole Miss after Andy Kennedy resigned this season, and has also been an assistant at Auburn, UTEP, and Arkansas State. He and Hardaway were teammates at Memphis.

  • I have heard that North Alabama has narrowed their field to five finalists and on-campus interviews will take place next week. UNA will be a full-time DI member next year and will be playing in the Atlantic Sun. I should have some names soon. **UPDATE: names can now be found HERE – NORTH ALABAMA SEARCH UPDATE**

  • I can confirm that Preston Beverly will be named as the head coach at NJCAA DII Richard Bland College. He will replace Chuck Moore who announced his resignation back in February. Beverly had spent the past three seasons as an assistant at RBC, and was the head coach at DIII JUCO Lincoln College of New England before that. An official announcement is expected next week. **UPDATE: RBC will become an NJCAA DI school next season**

  • Two names that I’ve heard surrounding the vacant DII Colorado Mesa job are Cochise College (AZ) head coach Jerry Carrillo and New Mexico Highlands associate head coach Michael Dominguez (a CMU alum). More on this one as I hear it.

  • I have heard that the leader to replace the retiring Tony Caputo at DIII Southern Virginia is current assistant Greg Winslow. He has been on the SVU staff since 2014.
