Marathon Monday here in Boston. Here are a few things I’ve heard while I sit on my sofa and watch crazy athletes run 26.2….
UNLV will add John Cooper as an assistant. Cooper had been on former SMU head coach Tim Jankovich since 2000. He has been the head coach at Miami (Ohio) and Tennessee State as well as an assistant coach at Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Oregon and Auburn. The official announcement is coming this week.
Multiple sources have told me this morning that Furman assistant Jimmie Williams looks to be the choice at D2 Anderson University (SC). Williams has been at Furman since 2018, and was an assistant at D2’s Wiliam Jewel (MO) and North Greenville (SC) before that. Heard an official announcement is imminent.
Speaking of South Carolina…ICYMI from earlier today, I had a State of South Carolina specific Dirt, which had stuff from College of Charleston, Clemson, SC State, and Morris College. You can read that HERE.
Now that Sean East has officially committed to Missouri, the Kyle Smithpeters rumors have really heated up. The current head coach at John A. Logan College (where East played last season) is rumored to be in the mix for the 3rd assistant on Dennis Gates new staff. Smithpeters has been at John A. Logan for the past nine years, and led his team to a 29-4 record this past season. More on this one as I hear it.
I have heard that D3 Virginia Wesleyan assistant Nick Doyle is the leader at ODAC foe Shenandoah. Doyle has been at VWU for the past four seasons, and has also worked at Wilkes and Lynchburg. Sounds like this one will be wrapped up this week.
I have heard that the search at NJCAA D1 Olney Central College is down to three. Names that I’ve heard are Vincennes assistant Jim Glash (a former head coach at Olney Central), and Wabash Valley assistant coach Isaac Wodajo. Working on the third name as we speak.
ICYMI from this weekend…I have confirmed that D2 Montevallo and D3 Penn State Abington have both opened. More on Montevallo HERE and PSU Abington HERE.
