Yesterday, HoopDirt.com reported that Mansfield University head coach Rich Miller had resigned. Last night I heard from several sources that a former NBA assistant had already been hired, and that was confirmed late today by WENY-TV. According to multiple sources, Pat Zipfel, a former assistant with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets was hired at least a week ago, and has been coaching the team during the preseason. Zipfel was the Head Coach and AD at DIII Centenary College (1996-1999) before joining the pro ranks. In addition to his experience as an assistant, Zipfel has also been an advance scout with the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trailblazers. There has still not been an official announcement from the school and Miller is still listed as the head coach on the website. Seems like odd timing here – I’m very curious to read the press release when this becomes official…
