Palm Beach Atlantic University and head men’s basketball coach Dave Balza have announced the promotion of Evan Sizemore to a full-time assistant basketball coach position. Sizemore was previously named to the men’s basketball coaching staff in the 2017-18 season as a graduate assistant.
Sizemore graduated cum laude with honors from Ohio State University in the spring of 2017, earning a bachelor’s of science in education. During his time at Ohio State, Sizemore worked with the women’s basketball team, which advanced to the Sweet 16 in consecutive seasons. He was also an event management intern at OSU as well as with the Columbus Blue Jackets and has served as a locker room assistant with the Green Bay Packers.
Sizemore has spent the past four summers working the basketball camps at Palm Beach Atlantic for Coach Balza and was a three-sport varsity athlete in high school in his home state of Wisconsin. “I am really grateful to Coach Balza and our entire department for giving me the opportunity to be a full-time assistant here at PBA. This has long been a dream of mine, and for them to put their trust in me means the world to me,” said Sizemore. “I believe that I can help lead this program in the right direction not only on the court, but off the court. I believe I can help our guys become Christian game changers in every facet of life and am blessed to be able to start my coaching journey here at Palm Beach Atlantic.”
Sizemore’s primary job responsibilities will include recruiting, scouting, running camps, academic monitoring, and on-court coaching. He will transition to the full-time assistant position immediately. “Promoting Evan was an easy decision. He effectively interviewed for the position this entire last year as our graduate assistant, and did a phenomenal job of going above and beyond in contributing to our program,” said Balza. “He has a bright future in coaching because he understands that the top priority of a coach is assisting the men in our program to grow spiritually, academically and athletically as well as to be there for them as they grow in our program. I am happy to name him as our new full-time assistant basketball coach. He will make our off-season transition seamless and help us continue our ascent up the conference standings.”
Palm Beach Atlantic finished the 2017-18 season 15-17 overall and 9-11 in Sunshine State Conference play. They battled many injuries throughout the season but qualified for the SSC Tournament for the second consecutive season while also knocking off No. 20 ranked Barry at home on Jan. 31.
