Following-up on my TWEET from earlier today, Jeff Burkhamer is out as the head men’s basketball coach at D2 University of West Florida and Justin Mann has been named as the interim head coach. UWF released a VERY brief statement:
The University of West Florida has announced that Justin Mann has been named the interim head men’s basketball coach, effective immediately.
Mann is in his first season at UWF and has more than a dozen years of college coaching experience, including two seasons as the head coach at Independence (Kan.) Community College from 2021-23 prior to arriving in Pensacola.
No mention of Burkhamer in the statement and no reason given for the change. Burkhamer had been at UWF since 2015, where he went 121-101 (.545). The coaching veteran has also been the head coach at Armstrong State (2002-09) and Lander (2009-15). He also served as a D1 assistant at Marshall, Morehead State, Charleston Southern, and Winthrop.
In addition to his time at Independence, Mann also worked as an assistant coach at Daytona State from 2018-19, Thomas University from 2015-18, Eastern Nazarene University from 2013-15 and Meridian CC from 2010-11.
