Jay Kuntz, who has spent the last seven years with the Mountaineer basketball program, has been named Coordinator of Player Development, coach Bob Huggins announced today.
“We are delighted to have Jay stay on as a member of the Mountaineer basketball staff,” said Huggins. “Jay’s energy and enthusiasm for Mountaineer basketball has been at a high level for the last seven years, and I’m confident that Jay will be an asset with his new responsibilities on our staff.”
Kuntz spent the last three years as a graduate assistant in men’s basketball and was a four-year student assistant from 2008-12. He also served as an assistant camp director for the Bob Huggins Basketball Camps and coordinated the men’s basketball manager staff of 16 individuals.
In his new role at WVU, Kuntz will assist with the coordination of on-campus recruiting activities, organize community outreach activities, assist in film and on-court analysis for player development and serve as the liaison to the academic services unit.
“I would like to thank Shane Lyons, Keli Cunningham and of course coach Huggins for this opportunity,” said Kuntz. “It is an absolute honor to remain with coach Huggins and his staff and to continue to build on the success that they have endured here during his tenure. West Virginia University is a place I hold very dear to my heart and I will continue to do my very best to represent the University and this great state in the best way that I know how.”
A native of Wallingford, Connecticut, Kuntz graduated from WVU in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in multidisciplinary studies and earned a master’s degree from WVU in athletic coaching education in 2014.
