LIU Brooklyn head men’s basketball coach Jack Perri has announced two additions to his coaching staff for the 2015-16 season. Kenyon Spears will serve as an assistant coach for the Blackbirds, while Alvin Vivican has been named the director of basketball operations.

A coaching veteran with over a decade of experience at the Division I level, Spears most recently served for three seasons as the top assistant at the University of New Orleans. Spears was also the recruiting coordinator for the Privateers.

Prior to his time in Louisiana, Spears was an assistant at Brown University in 2011-12 and at Northeast Conference rival Wagner from 2005-10.

During his tenure with the Seahawks, which also included a stint as associate head coach from 2008-10, Spears helped develop All-NEC First performers Durell Vinson and Mark Porter, and was a part of the school’s record-setting 23-win season in 2007-08.

Spears is a graduate of Lamar University, where he was a four-year letterwinner with the Cardinals from 1997-01. Spears served as captain as a senior, leading the team to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Southland Conference Tournament. Spears also coached as his alma mater for two seasons after graduation from 2002-04.

Vivican enters the coaching ranks after a playing career that was capped at Adelphi University on Long Island. A 6-0 guard who played for one year at Suffolk County Community College, where he was a second team All-Region XV selection, Vivian played three seasons with the Panthers from 2006-09.

The Brentwood, N.Y. native helped Adelphi to an ECC title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament as a sophomore, then averaged 9.6 points, connected on 105 three-pointers and helped the squad to a pair of 20-win seasons over his final two seasons with the team.
