Mocini Promoted To Assistant Coach Position at Central Michigan

Central Michigan men’s basketball coach Keno Davis has promoted longtime coordinator of basketball operations DJ Mocini to an assistant-coaching position.

Mocini, a native of Saugatuck, had served as the Chippewas’ coordinator of operations for the past six seasons. He has helped lead the Chippewas to 100 victories and four postseason appearances over the past five seasons.

DJ Mocini has been an integral part of our program’s success,” Davis said. “We are very fortunate to have such a highly regarded up-and-coming coach here at CMU.”

Mocini joined the CMU staff in 2013 after serving as an assistant coach at Northwood for the previous three years. He helped the Timberwolves in 2012 capture the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) North Division championship, setting a program record for consecutive victories and victories in a season since the Timberwolves moved to NCAA Division II.

Mocini graduated from Albion College in 2008 from the Carl A. Gerstacker Institute for Business and Management. He played four years for the Britons basketball team, serving as team captain during his senior season.

Mocini earned his master’s degree in educational leadership from Dayton in 2012. He served as a graduate assistant for the Flyers men’s basketball program that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2009. In 2010, the Flyers won the NIT championship.
