More small colleges set to close

It’s been tough few years for small private DIII schools. Last year, New England DIII’s Mount Ida College (MA) (GNAC) and Wheelock College (MA) (NECC) shut their doors, leaving coaches and players searching for new schools.

Earlier this fall, it was announced that DIII Newbury College (MA) (NECC) would be joining that list, and we reported last week that NAIA Green Mountain College (VT) would be shutting it’s doors after this semester as well.

Now word has come that yet another DIII from the New England Collegiate Conference is closing, as Southern Vermont College’s Board of Trustee’s has voted to close the college at the end of the spring semester. Additionally, DIII College of New Rochelle announced late last week in a memo to the campus from the president and board chair that “it appears unlikely that the college will be able to continue operations beyond the end of the summer 2019 semester.”

That’s six small college’s in two years…

I’m not going to debate the future of tuition dependent small private schools (will be a slow death for many), rather I’d like to see if we can help these players (and coaches) find new homes.

Rosters for the four schools slated to shut down at the end of the semester are below. Take a peek and see if you can help any of these guys find a new spot (some pretty good players out there)…
