Maryville College Head Men’s Basketball Coach Raul Placeres has announced changes to his basketball program’s coaching staff, effective immediately.
Long-time assistant coach and former Maryville College player Jeff McCord has announced his retirement from full-time coaching and will step into a volunteer position with the team. Placeres has tabbed former player Myles Rasnick to step into McCord’s role.
“We’re incredibly excited to announce Myles Rasnick as the new assistant coach, stepping into the role previously held by Coach Jeff McCord” Placeres said of the change.
“First, I want to thank Jeff for everything he’s meant to this program. Over the past six years, he’s been the definition of commitment, loyalty, and growth—always putting the players and team first. Together, we’ve achieved so much: Winning close to 80% of our games in the last five seasons while winning five regular season championships, three conference tournament titles, and the highest national ranking in the D3hoops era in the 2021-2022 season. More importantly, Jeff made every player he coached better—on and off the court.”
As players, Placers and McCord were on the same teams at Maryville College and made a run to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament – one of the best finishes in school history. As coaches, the duo has combined to win 100 games at the college, including 58 conference games.
“Now, we turn the page with excitement as we welcome Myles Rasnick. Myles brings a deep understanding of what it means to be a Scot. He’s one of the most accomplished players in our program’s history: a former Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, All-Region selection, and All-American. Over the past two years, he’s continued to play the game internationally, playing professionally in Poland and Latvia where he led his team in scoring and was considered one of the better players at his position in both countries.”
Coach Rasnick commented, “It is truly a dream to have the opportunity to coach at my Alma Mater!”
“Not many people get a chance to play and coach at the same school, so when coach Placeres gave me the call, I couldn’t turn it down. Maryville is an amazing place and holds a special place in my heart. I can’t wait to help continue the success that coach Placeres and McCord have had in the last few years. Go Scots!”
As a Scot, Rasnick averaged 17.2 points per game, along with 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists. He accumulated 862 points and shot over 50% from the floor and 42% from behind the arc.
Placeres continued, “We couldn’t be more thrilled to have Myles back with us. His passion, experience, and drive to help players become their best—both as athletes and as people—will be a huge asset to our program. The future is bright for the Scots!”
The team will begin their 2025-26 slate in November, with the full schedule to be released in the coming weeks.
