Roxbury CC Names New Head Basketball Coach

Roxbury Community College Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Athletics Jelani Townsell announced today the hiring of Albert Hayle as the Head Men’s Basketball Coach.

“I am truly humbled and honored to be the Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Roxbury Community” said Hayle. “This is a life changing opportunity for me… it’s a dream come through to be a head coach on the college level at an institution that’s a staple in the community. Thank you to President Roberson, Vice President Regner, Dean Oroz and Director of Athletics Jelani Townsell for this tremendous
opportunity.”

Albert Hayle has over 9 years of college coaching experience (Assistant Coach at Emmanuel College, Umass Boston, and Newbury College) and high school coaching experience (Head Boys Basketball Coach at Dracut Senior High School). Albert is also a renowned basketball skill development expert throughout the greater Boston area and established a basketball skill development program called Rise Athletics, LLC. He also has a passion for working with youth in Boston and has over 10 years of experience working within the non-profit sector with a focus on educational advancement, community outreach, youth development, and leadership. Albert recently established his own nonprofit iriseaboveit, inc. with the goal of providing educational services to young people by uplifting them with resources and tools that will help them develop necessary life skills and knowledge to make healthier life decisions.

Albert Hayle had an outstanding playing career at Emmanuel College where he was a 1,000 point scorer, 4 year captain, and 4 year MVP. In 2014, Coach Hayle was the first male athlete to be inducted into the Emmanuel College Athletics Hall of Fame.

He was a stellar athlete at Emmanuel College which is why he was inducted into their Hall of Fame. He also has an outstanding coaching background. Most importantly, his passion to connect and work with youth in the local Boston area speaks volumes about his character.”

Albert earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development from Emmanuel College and his Master’s Degree (MSW) in Social Work at Wheelock College.
