Dallas Baptist University Head Basketball Coach, Blake Flickner, announced Monday that Ryan Glenney has been hired as the assistant basketball coach and recruiting coordinator for DBU Basketball. Ryan comes to DBU from North Platte Community College where he served as the top assistant coach since 2014.
“We are so fortunate to have a person the quality of Ryan on our staff,” DBU head basketball coach Blake Flickner said. “Not only does he bring with him a wealth of knowledge about college basketball, but he also shares our passion for Christ-centered athletics and will be a great mentor to our student athletes.”
Glenney brings over eight years of coaching experience at the college level recruiting, advising, and leading college basketball players at the NCAA and NJCAA Division I level to the Patriots of Dallas Baptist University. While at North Platte, Coach Glenney worked for Coach Kevin O’Connor who has a tremendous history of excellence and success. There he was involved with player development, scouting, academic supervision, and camps.
Prior to his stint with North Platte, Ryan served at Jacksonville College (NJCAA) in Jacksonville, Texas, where he worked for Coach Jody Bailey. Prior to Jacksonville, Glenney was the recruiting coordinator at Western Texas College working for Coach Larren Silver. At each stop, Glenney has been in charge of recruiting players, leading individual workouts, scouting opponents, and academic supervision. He has signed or coached players from Texas, North Carolina, Florida, Nebraska, Maryland, South Carolina, New York, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Georgia, Louisiana, California, Ohio, Spain, England, Serbia, Trinidad, Australia, Canada, Nigeria, Angola, Gambia, Italy, Latvia, and Tanzania.
“Since leaving DBU in 2011, he has worked for some other outstanding coaches and really proven himself and a top recruiter,” Flickner said. “He is a tireless worker with a great eye for talent, and he will greatly help our program as we continue to build a tradition of excellence at DBU. He has been able to find talented players all over the country, and he will be a great asset to our recruiting efforts.”
Glenney began his coaching career at Iowa State University where he served as a student assistant under current Creighton University Coach Greg McDermott. After graduating from Iowa State, he joined the Dallas Baptist University staff as a Graduate Assistant Coach. During his previous tenure at DBU, Glenney assisted with recruiting, academic supervision, and was a part of the 2011 NCCAA National Championship team.
Coach Glenney will serve as the recruiting coordinator at Dallas Baptist University, and many other duties including scheduling, assisting with academic monitoring, on the floor coaching responsibilities, and scouting.
He has a B.A. in Community Sport and Recreation from Iowa State University (2009), and a M.A. in Kinesiology from Dallas Baptist University (2011). He and his wife Amanda, herself a DBU grad, have been married for four years and they have a daughter named Harper.
“Ryan and his wife Amanda love DBU, and they love other people,” said Flickner. “They have a real heart for serving others, and will be a great addition the discipleship program as we continue to mentor young men through basketball. I am excited to see what God will do in the coming years in their lives and we are fortunate to have them here.”
