I can confirm that South Alabama assistant (and Brooklyn native) Dan Matic will be named as the director of basketball operations for new head coach Chris Mullin at St. John’s. Matic has worked at South Alabama for the past two seasons, and served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Eastern Illinois before that. He started his coaching career in 2001 for Team Takeover (AAU) of New York City, where he was the head coach for six years. This is expected to be made official in the next week or so. Mullin is also expected to fill his final assistant spot this week as well – a few former NBA teammates are reportedly in the mix for this one…
