Daily Dirt – 3/19/21

Yesterday was nuts. Curious to see what today will bring. Here are some things that I’ve heard…

It sounds like Matt Scherbenske is no longer the associate head coach at the University of Central Arkansas. He had been on the Bears staff for the past six seasons. No official word on his departure from UCA, but he no longer appears on the Bears roster.

Yesterday, I mentioned Vermont assistant Hamlet Tibbs and Roman Catholic (Philly) head coach Matt Griffin as guys in the mix to join Dwayne Killings new staff at Albany. I’ve also heard that Stetson DBO Luis Guzman is in play here. Guzman, who played at Temple, was a GA for the Owls when Killings was an assistant there.

Multiple reports have Miami assistant Adam Fisher joining Micah Shrewsberry’s staff at Penn State. Fisher is a Penn State alum, who spent two seasons (2011-13) in an administrative role with the Nittany Lions. He also spent time as a GA on Jay Wright’s staff at Villanova.

It sounds like Xavier special assistant to the head coach Matthew Graves is involved with an assistant spot on Josh Schertz new staff at Indiana State. Graves, the former head coach at South Alabama, is an Indiana native who was a long time staffer at Butler.

From what I’ve heard, there is no search firm at Eastern Michigan – they are doing this one completely in house (a novel idea these days). Early names making the rounds include Duquesne assistant Charles Thomas (an EMU alum), Michigan assistant Saddi Washington, and Maryland assistant (and Detroit native) DeAndre Haynes.

It sounds like the search at D2 Clayton State is getting closer to wrapping up. The names that I’ve heard the most here are Georgia assistant Chad Dollar, former South Carolina staffer Jay Gibbons, and Rice assistant Vince Alexander.

Kevin Waters, who spent 2017-2020 as the head coach at NAIA Wilberforce University (OH), has landed as the Director of Athletics at Miami Sports Academy. In addition to his time at Wilberforce, Waters worked as a head coach in the ABA, and spent time as an assistant at Kennesaw State.
