Back on 6/3, I mentioned that that I had heard there will be a change on the staff at McNeese State (Daily Dirt – 6/3/16). I have now heard from multiple sources that assistant coach Steve Welch will resign effective June 30th.  Welch came out of retirement prior to the 2009-10 season to join McNeese State head coach Dave Simmons’ staff. In addition to being an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech and Southeastern Louisiana, Welch also spent seven seasons as the head coach at McNeese State (1987-1994). After leaving the coaching ranks, Welch spent 12 years as the assistant director of intramurals at the university. There is no word yet on his replacement. More on this once it becomes official.
