Central Florida men’s basketball head coach Donnie Jones added to his staff on Monday, announcing the hiring of A.J. Register as the program’s new Director of Operations for the 2015-16 campaign.
Register worked as a graduate assistant with the Knights during the 2014-15 season, helping to prepare scouting reports, working with game film, and organizing offseason player development among other duties. Register also assisted with the Donnie Jones Basketball camps the past two summers.
“We’re excited to have A.J. step into this position,” Jones said. “He is a hard worker with a great skill set. A.J. will do a great job for us on the operational side of things.”
Register is currently pursuing his Master of Arts degree in Career and Technical Education at UCF, which he began following graduation from the University of Alabama in the spring of 2014.
While at Alabama Register worked as a student manager with the men’s basketball team. He helped prepare recruiting schedules, logged and evaluated film and assisted in the Anthony Grant Basketball Camp, among other things while working with the Crimson Tide.
“I’m very grateful to Coach Jones for this opportunity,” Register said. “I can’t wait to hit the ground running and help this program out in any way that I can. It’s an exciting time for me and for UCF Basketball.”
