North Dakota Head Coach Brian Jones will promote Director of Basketball Operations Jeff Horner to assistant coach. He will replace Jason Shay, who became an assistant at East Tennessee back in April. Horner was a high school coach in Iowa before joining the UND staff in 2014.
The former Mr. Basketball in the state of Iowa (2002), Horner played collegiately at the University of Iowa where he was a four-year starter for the Hawkeyes. He capped his career by being named the Big Ten Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2006. He ended his run in Iowa City as the program’s all-time leader in assists (612) and 3-pointers made (262). Horner’s 1,506 career points are just outside the program’s Top 10 list. He played both overseas and in the D-League after graduation.
I have heard that this hiring will be made official shortly.
