WEEK 14: HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 14 HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. The coaches are now eligible to receive the HoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2017-18 college basketball season.

The Week 14 winners are:

NCAA DI: Donte’ Jackson – Grambling State University

Coach Jackson’s Tigers took two more victories this week, pushing their win streak to 11 games. On Monday, Grambling State defeated Texas Southern 78-55 to take over sole possession of first place in the SWAC and extend their win streak to 10. Then, on Saturday, the Tigers won their 11th straight, a school record, 71-64 over Jackson State. Grambling State has not lost since January 6th, and will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday at home against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.


NCAA DII: Grady Brewer – Morehouse College (GA)

Grady L. BrewerMorehouse College, led by Coach Brewer, continued its stellar run this season with two more wins this week. The Maroon Tigers came away with a convincing victory over Livingstone College 77-53 on Tuesday, then defeated Albany State 76-63 on Saturday. This win improved Morehouse to 22-1 overall (16-1 SIAC), and #1 in the NCAA DII South Region (#11 overall). The Maroon Tigers will try to win their fifth straight as they take on Fort Valley State on Monday.


NCAA DIII: John Krikorian – Christopher Newport University (VA)

Coach Krikorian led his Christopher Newport squad to two clutch victories this week and finished the regular season off strong. The Captains came up with a huge 75-71 win against Mary Washington to set up a regular-season conference champion deciding game against York College, ranked #8 in the country. Christopher Newport took a thrilling 81-71 victory over York to finish the regular season at 20-5 (14-4 CAC). The Captains will now head into the CAC tournament with the top seed for the third straight season.


NAIA: Josh Gamblin – Mid-America Christian University (OK)

Josh Gamblin ImageMid-America Christian University won three big games this week, including two over nationally ranked opponents. Coach Gamblin’s squad knocked off 7th overall University of Science & Arts of Oklahoma 101-90 in a critical SAC match-up, then defeated #20 Wayland Baptist University 81-80 on a three pointer with under 10 seconds remaining in overtime. Following these two huge wins, the Evangels took down Oklahoma Panhandle State University 104-85 to improve to 17-10 overall (11-8 SAC). MACU finishes their regular season on Saturday against Southwestern Christian University.


JUCO: Jared Phay – College of Southern Idaho

Coach Phay’s Golden Eagles continued to play extremely well this week, winning two more games and knocking off a top-10 team. College of Southern Idaho traveled to Utah to take on 7th ranked Salt Lake CC on Thursday. They came away with a hard-fought 81-79 overtime victory to improve to 24-4 overall. The Golden Eagles then blew out Colorado Northwestern CC 101-65 to pick up win #25 on the season. CSI plays their last regular season game against Snow College on Thursday.
