The Week 13 winners are:
NCAA DI: James Jones – Yale University
Two big wins this week propelled Coach Jones’ Bulldogs to the top of the Ivy League standings and remained undefeated at home on the season. Yale opened the weekend by handing Princeton their first Ivy League loss and moving into a three-way tie for first place. The Bulldogs then took over sole control of the Ivy League lead on Saturday thanks to a 78-65 victory over Penn and losses by Princeton and Harvard. They are now 15-4 on the season and have won 13 straight home games dating back to last season. Next up for the Bulldogs is a road match-up against Columbia.
NCAA DII: Mike McDonald – Daemen College (NY)
Coach MacDonald had a week to remember, as his team clinched a spot in the conference tournament and he picked up a milestone victory. Daemen defeated Molloy 89-75 on Friday and Queens 89-63 on Sunday. The victory over Queens clinched a postseason berth for the Wildcats, and was Coach MacDonald’s 100th win with Daemen. Coach MacDonald has now won 100 games as a head coach in all NCAA divisions (108 with DI Canisius and 148 with DIII Medaille). His #20 Wildcats (19-3) will look to pick up their ninth-straight win on Friday against LIU Post.
NCAA DIII: Matt Logie – Whitworth University (WA)
Coach Logie’s squad came away with two tightly contested victories this week, improving to 19-3 on the season. The 15th ranked Pirates led for a total of 23 seconds on Friday against Linfield but took a 74-73 win thanks to a go-ahead layup with 13 seconds left. They followed this up with another come from behind victory, this time a 107-98 overtime win against George Fox to clinch second place in the Northwest Conference. The Pirates improved to 11-3 in the conference with two regular season games remaining. Whitworth will attempt to win their 20th game on Friday at Pacific Lutheran.
NAIA: John Teasley – Stillman College (AL)
Coach Teasley picked up win #50 at the helm of Stillman College this week as his Tigers won two games and improved to 23-2 on the season. On Thursday, #9 Stillman took a 111-88 victory over Florida College to remain in a tie for first place in the SSAC. A 95-93 defeat of Brewton-Parker on Saturday moved the Tigers into sole possession of first place in the conference and marked Coach Teasley’s 50th win at Stillman in just his second season at the head of the program (50-7). The Tigers will look to stay hot as they travel to take on the University of Mobile on Monday.
JUCO: Steve DeMeo – Northwest Florida State College
#4 Northwest Florida State, led by Coach DeMeo, clinched another conference championship with two more victories this week. On Wednesday, the Raiders defeated #18 Tallahassee 94-69 – their 7th victory over a ranked opponent this season. They then knocked off visiting Pensacola State 103-84 on Saturday. This win clinched the Panhandle Conference Championship for the fifth straight year, and improved their record to 23-2 on the season. DeMeo now holds a career tally of 165-24 at NWF, and his group has a chance to extend their winning streak to 10 in a match-up with Gulf Coast State on Wednesday.
USCAA: Paul Hogan – NHTI, Concord’s Community College (NH)
Coach Hogan’s NHTI squad rode their high-powered offense to three more wins this week, finishing the regular season at 22-4. The Lynx, ranked 5th overall in USCAA DII, defeated Hampshire College on Tuesday 120-33. They followed this 87-point victory with a 127-113 win at Maine-Augusta and a 116-69 victory over the College of St. Joseph’s. The Lynx improved to 13-2 in the YSCC with these three victories. NHTI carries a four-game winning streak into their YSCC quarterfinal match-up on Saturday.
