LOYOLA CHICAGO UNIVERSITY HEAD COACH PORTER MOSER NAMED HOOPDIRT.COM DI COACH OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY JUST PLAY SOLUTIONS
For Immediate Release
April 13, 2018
Loyola University Chicago Head Basketball Coach Porter Moser has been named as the HoopDirt.com DI Coach of the Year presented by Just Play Solutions for the 2017-18 college basketball season. Moser qualified for the award by being named as the HoopDirt.com/Just Play Solutions Coach of the Week for Week 2 of the season.
Coach Moser’s Ramblers captured the hearts of basketball fans across the country during their unbelievable Final Four run, but how they got to that point cannot be overlooked. Loyola Chicago finished with a 32-6 record this season, gaining national attention early in the season when they knocked off #5 Florida 65-59 on the road. The Ramblers went 15-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference, cruising to the regular season league title and winning the conference tournament to earn a #11 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Coach Moser then led his team to thrilling victories over Miami, Tennessee, Nevada, and Kansas State to become the fourth-ever #11 seed to reach the Final Four. Loyola Chicago went down in the Final Four against Michigan, but their historic run will not soon be forgotten.
Even before his team’s magical run in the NCAA Tournament, Coach Moser had a milestone season, as he picked up his 100th win as Loyola Chicago’s Head Coach in a victory over Evansville on December 30, becoming the sixth coach in program history to do so. The 32 wins that the Ramblers recorded this year also set a single-season program record, the NCAA Tournament berth was the school’s first since 1985, and the Final Four appearance was their first since 1963. Coach Moser has led his squad to 65 wins over the last three seasons, the program’s most in three decades, and is 121-111 in seven seasons with the Ramblers.
Moser joins, Andy Bronkema – Ferris State (DII), Eric Bridgeland – Whitman College (DIII), Craig Doty – Graceland University (NAIA) Paul Cisek – Brookdale Community College (JUCO) as the other HoopDirt.com Coaches of the Year presented by Just Play Solutions.
