Northwest Missouri State University Head Basketball Coach Ben McCollum has been named as the HoopDirt.com NCAA DII Coach of the Year presented by Just Play Solutions for the 2018-19 college basketball season. McCollum qualified for the award by being named as the HoopDirt.com/Just Play Solutions Coach of the Week for Week 1 of the season.
McCollum led the Bearcats to a remarkable 38-0 season and captured the 2018-19 NCAA DII National Championship – their second in the past three seasons. Along the way, Northwest went 19-0 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and won their fourth straight MIAA Conference Tournament.
Northwest becomes only the fifth program to complete a perfect season and win the national title. Also, their 38 wins tied the all-time DII record for victories in a season.
In his ten seasons as the Bearcats head coach, McCollum is now 241-75 – over the past three seasons, he is 100-5. This is the second time that McColum has captured this award, he also won it following the 2016-17 season.
