WEEK 2: HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 2 HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. These coaches are now eligible to receive the HoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2022-23 college basketball season.

This is the eighth season that HoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The list of 2022-23 Coach of the Week winners, as well as the list of all-time COY winners can be found following this week’s honorees.

The Week 2 winners are:


NCAA D1: Frank Martin – UMass

Weekly Record (Overall): 3-0 (4-1)
Past week’s results: 66-63 W vs Colorado, 71-69 W vs Murray State, 60-54 W vs Charlotte.
Highlights: Captured the Myrtle Beach Invitational with 3 wins this week. Average margin of victory was 3.6 points. First in-season tournament title since 2013.

NCAA D2: Eric Eaton – Saint Michael’s College

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (4-0)
Past week’s results: 75-74 W vs New Haven, 78-70 W vs Saint Rose.
Highlights: Downed regionally ranked New Haven by 1 to start the week. Win vs Saint Rose gives SMC their best start since 2013-14 season.

NCAA D3: Glen Miller – University of Saint Joseph

Weekly record (overall): 3-0 (4-0)
Past week’s results: 77-56 W vs RV Babson, 60-44 W vs #3 UW-Oshkosh, 73-64 (OT) W vs #21 Illinois Wesleyan.
Highlights: Opened week with convincing win vs Babson, then won both games they played this week at the Small College Basketball Champions Classic (SD). All 4 wins this season vs nationally ranked or receiving votes teams.

NAIA: John Henry – William Penn University

Weekly record (overall): 2-0 (4-1)
Past week’s results: 118-98 W vs Bethel, W 93-91 (2OT) vs Columbia College.
Highlights: Handed Bethel 1st loss of season (Bethel had beaten 2 Top 25 teams). Hit a tip-in with :30 left in 2OT to secure the win against Columbia.

JUCO: Hank Plona – Indian Hills CC

Weekly record (overall): 3-0 (9-0)
Past week’s results: 108-99 W vs #1 Northwest Florida, 92-61 W vs McCook, 79-60 W vs Missouri State West Plains.
Highlights: Beat #1 NWF on Wednesday to hand the defending National Champs their first loss of the season. Won both games in the Reed Overhead Doors Classic after that.
