Week 10: HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 10 HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. These coaches are now eligible to receive the HoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2019-20 college basketball season.

This is the fifth season that HoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The previous 2019-20 weekly winners, and a list of all-time COY winners can be found following this weeks honorees.

The Week 10 winners are:


NCAA DI: Nate Oats – University of Alabama

Nate Oats Coach Oats led Alabama to a huge win over a top-5 opponent en route to a 2-0 week. On Wednesday, the Crimson Tide hosted No. 4 Auburn, who entered the match-up a perfect 15-0. Alabama jumped out to an early advantage and led wire to wire in an 83-64 victory. The win was the Crimson Tide’s first against an AP top-four opponent since they defeated No. 1 Stanford in the 2004 NCAA Tournament. Alabama stayed hot on Saturday, defeating Missouri 88-74 to pick up win No. 10 on the season. Now 10-7 (3-2 SEC), Alabama will look to make it three in a row when they travel to take on Vanderbilt on Wednesday.


NCAA DII: Bart Lundy – Queens University of Charlotte

Coach Lundy’s 16th ranked Queens squad extended their winning streak to five with two more impressive victories this week. The Royals knocked off No. 25 Catawba 90-80 in a top-25 showdown on Wednesday, marking their 15th consecutive win over Catawba. Queens scored 90 again in their next match-up, defeating Mars Hill 90-79 on Saturday to improve to 13-3 (8-2 SAC) on the season. The Royals now look ahead to a road contest against Wingate on Wednesday. 


NCAA DIII: Jean Bain – Brandeis University

Jean Bain Brandeis, led by Coach Bain, began conference play hot, defeating a top three opponent in dramatic fashion to move to 3-0 in the UAA. The Judges’ week started with a convincing 76-54 win over Rochester, extending their winning streak to five. They looked to stay hot in a tough home match-up against No. 3 Emory on Sunday. In a 73-73 game, Brandeis knocked down a jumper with 0.8 seconds remaining to come away with a hard-fought victory. Now 11-3 (3-0 UAA) on the season, the Judges travel to take on Washington U. on Friday night. 


NAIA: Josh Gamblin – Mid-America Christian University

Gamblin_Josh It was more of the same from Coach Gamblin’s squad this week, as the Evangels won two more games over top-25 opponents to remain unbeaten on the season.  No. 2 Mid-America Christian opened the week on the road, taking on 19th ranked Texas Wesleyan on Thursday. The Evangels used a big second half to take a 92-81 victory before returning home for Saturday’s contest against No. 22 Southwestern Assemblies of God. Trailing by eight with 4:04 remaining, Mid-America Christian rallied to avoid their first loss and come away with a 90-86 triumph. The 17-0 (8-0 SAC) Evangels are back in action on Thursday against Southwestern Christian. 


JUCO: Pat Smith – Moberly Area Community College

Smith Coach Smith’s Greyhounds had a big week, as they won two games and handed a top three opponent their first loss of the season. Moberly Area won 92-78 on the road against State Fair on Wednesday before returning home to take on No. 3 Mineral Area, who entered the match-up at 19-0. The Greyhounds came away with a 95-84 upset, moving to an impressive 18-4 record on the season. They will look to stay hot when they travel to Three Rivers on Saturday.
