WEEK 5: HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 5 HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. These coaches are now eligible to receive the HoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2022-23 college basketball season.

This is the eighth season that HoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The list of 2022-23 Coach of the Week winners, as well as the list of all-time COY winners can be found following this week’s honorees.

The Week 5 winners are:

NCAA D1: Pat Duquette – UMass Lowell

Weekly Record (Overall): 3-0 (11-1)
Past week’s results: 84-64 W vs LIU, 85-80 W vs UMass, 68-59 W vs St. Francis Brooklyn.
Highlights: With 3 more wins this past week, Duquette’s River Hawks extend their best start (11-1) and longest win streak (9) in the program’s Division I history. The win vs UMass on Thursday was the first vs the Minutemen in UML’s D1 history.

NCAA D2: Brion Dunlap – Claflin University

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (8-0)
Past week’s results: 86-84 OT W vs Paine, 82-80 W vs Shaw.
Highlights: Two crazy wins for Dunlap and his Panthers last week. They trailed Paine 70-45 with 10:17 left in the second half on Monday, staged a furious comeback, and would up winning in OT. On Saturday vs Shaw, they hit a jumper with just over one second remaining for the win, which kept them unbeaten on the season.

NCAA D3: Chris Bartley – WPI

Weekly record (overall): 2-0 (7-1)
Past week’s results: 76-49 W vs Husson, 77-62 W vs Salem State.
Highlights: Bartley picked up the 400th win of his career on Wednesday vs Husson. The victory vs Springfield on Saturday gives Bartley a 401-154 (.723) career record at WPI. His Engineers are currently ranked 13th in the country.

NAIA: Jermael Bingham – Blue Mountain College

Weekly record (overall): 2-0 (7-3)
Past week’s results: 75-65 W vs #7 Faulkner, 72-52 W vs Talladega.
Highlights: The Toppers upset win on Tuesday was their first vs #7 Faulkner since 2017. The win on Saturday vs Talladega runs their winning streak to 3 and gives them a perfect 4-0 record at home.

JUCO: Joey Cantens – Daytona State

Weekly record (overall): 3-0 (12-0)
Past week’s results: 100-75 W vs 212 Academy, 76-72 W vs Pensacola State, 96-94 (OT) W vs #22 Northwest Florida.
Highlights: Canten’s #17 Falcons remain perfect on the season with three more wins last week. After dispatching 212 Academy on Tuesday, DSC won two games in the Florida College JUCO Men’s Basketball Shootout, including beating #22 NWF. The 12-0 start is the best in school history.
