Week 10: HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 10 HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. These coaches are now eligible to receive the HoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2021-22 college basketball season.

This is the seventh season that HoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The list 2021-22 Coach of the Week winners, as well as the list of all-time COY winners can be found following this week’s honorees.

The Week 10 winners are:


NCAA DI: Dana Altman – University of Oregon

Dana Altman mug shot Coach Altman’s Ducks made history this week, defeating Top 5 teams in consecutive games for the first time in program history. Oregon opened its week on Monday with a closely-contested 78-76 victory at Oregon State before heading to Los Angeles to face off against No. 3 UCLA on Thursday evening. The Ducks were able to come away with a huge 84-81 triumph in overtime, marking the 700th Division I victory of Coach Altman’s career. The schedule wouldn’t get any easier for Oregon, as they remained in Los Angeles to take on 5th-ranked USC on Saturday. The Ducks built a 16-point halftime lead en route to a 79-69 win, becoming the first team in Pac-12 history to beat Top 5 teams in back-to-back games on the road, and the first across all conferences to do so since the 1975-76 season. Now 11-6 (4-2 Pac-12) on the season, the Ducks will look to bring home the momentum gathered on the road trip when they host Washington State on Thursday.


NCAA DII: Craig Doty – Emporia State University

Coach Doty’s Hornets extended their winning streak to seven this week, as they defeated another pair of conference opponents on the road. Emporia State jumped out to a 13-point  lead at the half on the way to a 74-59 victory over Pittsburg State on Thursday, before facing off against Missouri Southern on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets trailed by one at halftime, but outscored the hosts by 14 in the second half to come away with an 85-72 triumph. Emporia State’s seven consecutive wins in MIAA play is their longest such streak since the 2006-07 season. Now with a record of 14-3 (9-2 MIAA) on the season, the Hornets will close out their three-game road trip with a matchup against Washburn on Saturday.


NCAA DIII: Pat Juckem – Washington University in St. Louis

Pat Juckem Coach Juckem’s WashU squad kicked off conference play with a pair of road victories this week, extending their winning streak to 11. The No. 4 Bears never trailed in their conference opener – a 72-61 triumph over previously-unbeaten, 25th-ranked Emory on Friday. Back in action at Rochester on Sunday, WashU led by as many as 18 en route to a 70-61 victory. The win marked the 250th of Coach Juckem’s head coaching career. The 12-1 (2-0 UAA) Bears now haven’t lost in over two months, with their only defeat coming on November 16th. Their next contest comes on Friday evening, when they host NYU in their first home conference matchup of the season.


NAIA: Preston Ingram – Missouri Baptist University

Preston Ingram With three more victories this week, Coach Ingram’s Spartans remained perfect in conference play. Missouri Baptist played its first home game since December 2nd on Tuesday, taking down Williams Baptist by a score of 80-65. Back on the road on Thursday, the Spartans were able to come away with a tightly-contested 74-70 triumph over the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy. The Spartans closed out their week with a 71-63 victory over Central Baptist on Saturday, improving to 15-4 (7-0 AMC) on the season. Sitting atop the AMC standings, Missouri Baptist will look to continue its winning ways when it hosts William Woods on Saturday afternoon.


JUCO: Bill Morosco – Garden City Community College

Bill Morosco Coach Morosco’s high-powered offense led the Broncbusters to a pair of victories over ranked opponents this week. Garden City took down No. 18 Butler Community College by a score of 94-64 on Wednesday, before heading into a road matchup against No. 5 Hutchinson Community College on Saturday. The Broncbusters came away with a 132-127 win, setting a program record for points scored in a game. Garden City knocked down 33 free throws and had four players score 20 or more points in the record-setting victory. Now 12-5 on the season, Garden City faces off against Barton Community College later this evening.
