WEEK 13: HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions

Congratulations to the following coaches who have been selected as the Week 13 HoopDirt.com Coach of the Week presented by Just Play Solutions. These coaches are now eligible to receive the HoopDirt.com National Coach of the Year Award presented by Just Play Solutions which will be announced at the conclusion of the 2022-23 college basketball season.

This is the eighth season that HoopDirt.com has run the Coach of the Week and Coach of the Year programs. The list of 2022-23 Coach of the Week winners, as well as the list of all-time COY winners can be found following this week’s honorees.

The Week 13 winners are:


NCAA D1: David Riley – Eastern Washington University

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (18-7)
Past week’s results: 82-63 W at Sacramento State, 98-88 W at Portland State
Highlights: Two wins on the road last week for Riley’s squad upped their nations-best win streak to 14-games. The Eagles are now 12-0 in the Big Sky, and have a two-game lead on 2nd place Montana State.

NCAA D2: John Ellenwood – Ashland University

Weekly Record (Overall): 2-0 (15-7)
Past week’s results: 82-73 W at #9 Hillsdale, 79-74 W vs Lake Erie
Highlights: Ashland went on the road last Thursday and upset Hillsdale, the #9 team in the nation – this was their first win vs a ranked opponent since 2020. The Eagles then beat Lake Erie on Saturday to run their record to 10-0 at home.

NCAA D3: Anthony Medina – University of St. Thomas (TX)

Weekly record (overall): 2-0 (21-2)
Past week’s results: 70-61 W at Austin, 65-62 W at Dallas
Highlights: Medina’s #11 St. Thomas squad went 2-0 on the road last week to remain unbeaten in SCAC play (14-0). UST is has now won 8 games in a row, and has already claimed the SCAC regular season championship with two games still to play.

NAIA: Clint Galyean – Wayland Baptist University

Weekly record (overall): 3-0 (19-6)
Past week’s results: 103-67 W vs Oklahoma Panhandle, 82-52 W vs Central Christian, 90-80 vs #3 Langston.
Highlights: A big-time week for Galyean, as his team went 3-0, including knocking off the #3 team in the nation. The win vs Langston was also the 100th of Galyean’s career. His team has now won 8 in a row, and have pushed their home record to 12-1.

JUCO: Brandon Burgette – Kansas City Kansas CC

Weekly record (overall): 2-0 (15-8)
Past week’s results: 66-63 W at #19 Allen County, 91-76 W vs Fort Scott
Highlights: Burgett’s Blue Devils opened the week with a 66-63 win at #19 Allen, who had been undefeated in the conference. With that win, KCK and Allen are now tied for the top spot in the league. The Blue Devils are also on a 5 game winning streak.
